Field post controle center of the German 6th Army at Awdejewka

Tons of fieldpost is waiting for the soldiers of the encircled forces at Stalingrad. Pictures taken in January 1943 at the field post controle center 547. The field post controle center 547 of the German 6th Army was located at Awdejewka. (outside the Stalingrad pocket ofcourse) Flying in supply and material in the Stalingrad pocket had always priority.

Most of the fieldpost you see on the pictures above never reached the encicled forces at Stalingrad. The last Germans at Stalingrad surrendered on 2 February 1943. Pictures Awdejewka taken from Heft 1 von 1971 -  Archiv für Deutsche Postgeschichte
( Seite 53 ) mit dem Titel " Die deutsche Feldpost im Zweiten Weltkrieg".

Romanian field post at Stalingrad.

The Romanian field post (OPM) was more or less well organized and was basically separated from the German army post office. If nevertheless (rarely) Romanian fieldpost documents emerge, where as sender a German Fp number is indicated and no OPM number, then these come from Romanians, which were integrated as liaison officers or interpreters etc. in German units. Also are Romanian Fp.- documents with German Fp no. known where Romanian military personnel were on their way to training (military training areas) and so on. Another possibility was that a Romanian was in a German hospital, from where he sent a greeting home.
